Zen Budokai East has been teaching Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in the Danbury
area since the mid 1970s. A large staff
of black belts guides students to achieve their maximum potential. Our clean,
modern training facility is an ideal
environment for learning discipline, fitness and self-defense. Our unique
system draws from:
| JUJITSU | “The gentle fighting art” is derived from the Japanese Samurai; it uses joint locks, throws, strikes, blocks, chokes and vital point strikes. Jujitsu is one of the oldest martial arts. | |
| KARATE | “Empty hand” fighting, a hard martial art that
features strikes: punching, kicking and blocking. Karate offers the first line of physical defense. |
|
| JUDO * | “The gentle way” A sport martial art where the object is to throw one’s opponent to the ground and subduing him with the use of throws, chokes and joint locks. | |
| KEMPO | “The fist way” - a martial art that combines striking and throwing techniques. | |
| YAWARA | A part of the Jujitsu art form, which uses joint locks of fingers, hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders to subdue an attacker with minimum injury to the attacker. | |
| AIKIDO * | A martial art that is performed by blending with the motion of an attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. |
* Judo and Aikido chart their origin from Jujitsu.
